That is a great pic. I would suspect debries behind it if there is no tail to see right now. What's that other little blip in the lower left?

Not EVEN remote to "close"...

Uncertainty Parameter U

In order to quantify the uncertainty in a perturbed orbital solution for a minor planet in a concise fashion, the Minor Planet Center has introduced the U parameter. This is an integer in the range 0 to 9, where 0 indicates a very small uncertainty and 9 an extremely large uncertainty. In practice, U is rarely larger than 6.

The U value is calculated in the following manner. First, calculate:

RUNOFF = (dT * e + 10 / P * dP) * ko / P * 3600 * 3

where dT is the uncertainty in the perihelion time (in days)

e is the eccentricity

P is the orbital period (in years)

dP is the uncertainty in the orbital period (in days)

ko is the Gaussian constant in degrees

= 180 / pi * 0.01720209895

3600 converts to seconds of arc

3 is a empirical factor to make the formal errors more

closely model reality

and RUNOFF is the in-orbit longitude runoff in seconds of

arc per decade

RUNOFF is then converted to the "uncertainty parameter" (denoted by 'U') in the range 0 to 9:

CONS = ln(648000)/9 CONS ~ 1.49

U = INT(ln(RUNOFF)/CONS)+1 (0 <= U <= 9)

where ln is the natural logarithm

INT is a function that returns the largest integer

smaller than the argument (e.g., INT(3.5) = 3,

INT(0.99) = 0, INT(-0.45) = -1)

As a guide, the values of U correspond to the following values of RUNOFF (in seconds of arc per decade):

U RUNOFF U RUNOFF

0 < 1.0 5 < 1692

1 < 4.4 6 < 7488

2 < 19.6 7 < 33121

3 < 86.5 8 < 146502

4 < 382 9 > 146502

Mystery lights reported over Phoenix

April 22nd, 2008 @ 5:44am

by KTAR Newsroom

People are looking for an explanation for mysterious red lights that appeared in the north Phoenix sky Monday night, reminiscent of a similar event 11 years ago.

Dozens of listeners called News/Talk 92-3 KTAR just after 8 p.m. reporting they were watching the four mystery lights.

``From my position, it looked like they were just hanging, not moving at all," said one man, who called 92-3's ``Gaydos After Dark." He said he ``absolutely" saw something.

A woman caller said, ``It looked like four red tower lights, but it was pretty high up in the air. I called my husband and he said, `Get home, what's wrong with you?'"

Those who saw them said the lights were visible about 13 minutes before moving off to the east.

Deer Valley Airport, which was the closest air field to the lights, had no explanation for them. Neither did Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport or Luke Air Force Base, which said it had no jets flying at the time.

On March 13, 1997, thousands of people reported seeing a v-shaped formation of lights over north Phoenix. They lasted about three hours. Some described them as forming a carpenter's square.

Among those who saw the lights in 1997 was former Gov. Fife Symington, who initially played down the episode. However, he said last year that he believes the lights came from ``crafts of unknown origin" and, ``It remains a great mystery."

Mystery Lights Spotted Flying 'In Formation' In Fla. Skies

POSTED: 6:49 am EDT April 22, 2008

UPDATED: 10:28 am EDT April 22, 2008

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- Strange orbs of light spotted flying in the night sky over St. Augustine are the second reported sighting of mystery lights in the area in recent weeks.

The Puckett family said they spotted the lights in the sky over the weekend. Witness Brandon Puckett, 12, said the lights were apparently flying toward each other.

Brandon Puckett said. "They were like flying toward each other."

Some skeptics said the lights could be from sky lanterns released during a nearby wedding.

Others are not convinced.

Another sighting of unexplained lights happened in St. Augustine Beach in the early-morning hours of April 14, reported WTLV-TV in Jacksonville.

People around the world claimed to have seen the same kind of lights in the sky and are posting some of the images on YouTube.

Chile volcano erupts; evacuation ordered

May 6, 2008

PUERTO MONTT, Chile (AFP) — A volcano in southern Chile erupted with renewed vigor Tuesday, raining ash and lava over its surroundings and forcing a total evacuation in a 30-kilometer (19-mile) radius, the National Emergency Office said.

Emergency sirens sounded in the coastal region 1,300 kilometers (800 miles) south of Santiago, after the Chaiten volcano blasted out ash and cinders and generated lava and pyroclastic flows, four days after it awoke from a 300-year slumber.

"A maximum alert has been decreed," Jorge Munoz, the head of the National Emergency Office (ONEMI), told AFP in Santiago after the volcano blew its top at 8:45am (1245 GMT).

A government vulcanologist warned that the eruption was only at the beginning stage and that an explosive eruption was possible.

"There could be a major explosion that could collapse the volcano's cone," said Luis Lara of the National Geologic and Mining Service.

ps...Comet 2007 W1...according to JPL 3D...is expected to make turn today...

check out...jpl 3D...

If turn takes place...then we will be able to see tail...then...

W1 is now... 0.326 au, which is @ 30 million miles...

Hi,

Q: What am i watching for?

A: For a flood... if anything...

Wha? did he say!?

We don't know yet if we are gonna get watered/hosed/sprayed+(FLOODED) by any trailing water tail wake as it comes up passing through the equatorial region of space.

One look at the photos of the huge tails of Comets V1 and McNaught etc. that swept through the inner solar system and we see some potential there Hmmm: (V1 tail was 7X size of Sun -- which may be quite allot of water)

Note: All these other previous comets have spouted massive tails of what was mainly labeled dust and "water" as I recall.

Recent research findings suggest that our planet's water actually originated from such inner solar system comets:

http://www.hawaii.edu/cgi-bin/uhnews?20060322142051

http://www.solstation.com/solsys/mb2comet.jpg

"Icy 'main belt comets' in the outer reaches of the Main Asteroid Belt may have brought much of the water that formed Earth's oceans"

Q: So what's the big deal about a little water...

couldn't our huge oceans handle it?

A: Our oceans are not really that big, or even "deep" comparatively -- when you first consider that it is more than 7000 miles straight through to China, and yet the oceans are only 2-3 miles deep in some cases. It would be very easy to raise that level with a flyby -- would it not? What percentage of say 2 miles deep would it take to impact the majority of the world's population that have all planted themselves 150 miles from the coasts?

The orbit diagram is showing August 27th as the point we center into the wake of this C+2007 W1

So when is this comet going to kill us?

Give us a date!

Hi Matt, yes...I remember V1...as I recall it came @ 19 million miles from the Sun?

I might be wrong, I lost alot of data and links..., but our friend covered this event very good...

for example...CME interacting with V1 as it got close...electrical exchange between the two, and still WE don't know the total make-up of W1 only that it is made of CN(Cyanogen ) a poisonous gas(Green color)...We still have NO idea how long that tail is going to be yet?

Also, as we both know...no idea what might be behind W1...?, OR if breaks a pc or two as the gravity, magnetic force/lines of Earth effects it?

Comets that had split...

These next couple of days should ?... provide us all some clues?

Matt, thanks...for showing up, and providing input...

according to JPL 3D orbit...min miss distance now at 0.0172+au...expected orbit still at 0.21 au...which is 19.5 million ! Richard C. Hoagland should loves those numbers.

This week is key

also...It was orginality expected only to reach a 4.5 mags on @ 6/27-28? , according to Yoshida graph...

but the BAA Comet Section from the UK is reporting might now get to a 2 mags.
