If you thought balmier spring weather had taken hold, think again.
Quebec and Ontario are in for snow — lots of it, in some places — over the next two days.
Eastern, Southern and Central Ontario will be hit with snow starting Sunday night and lasting through Tuesday, Environment Canada says. Ottawa, Kingston, Peterborough, Toronto and Hamilton can all expect a possible dump of white stuff, while North Bay and Sudbury could continue to see wintry precipitation through the end of the week.
ANALYSIS The costs of climate change
Temperatures in most of those areas are forecast to fall to one degree C, and in some places will be several notches below freezing, which is up to 10 degrees below normal for this time of year, Environment Canada said.
Meanwhile in Quebec, it'll look like a winter wonderland. Parts of the Saguenay region around Lac-St-Jean and southeast of Chicoutimi, as well as the Lower St. Lawrence, Gaspé and North Shore regions, are expecting 15 to 20 centimetres of wet snow beginning Saturday night and lasting until Monday.
The federal weather office has issued snowfall alerts for most of those areas and cautioned that strong winds could whip up the snow, impeding visibility on roads.
Ontario's expected bout of nasty weather is thanks to a low-pressure system that formed in the Gulf of Mexico on Saturday afternoon and is forecast to drift north on Sunday and Monday, Environment Canada says. The system's leading edge will push north and west, bringing cold precipitation to a slice of the province from the Ottawa area through north of Toronto to Niagara.
