I would choose the monkey, most definitely. I have a Parrot. He's a yellow nape and is 30 years old. He's not at all helpful and can be a real prick if he's mad about something. When he bites he bites hard and then makes a laughing noise and starts doing his happy dance. No matter how nice you are to him, he's moody and enjoys biting people and the dog if given a chance. I'm sure Monkeys can be pricks too but with most mammals, if you give him plenty of food and affection and plenty of play time, I'm sure they could be very trainable and have a pleasant disposition.

Yeah that is also a possibilty. But since I already know the parrot isn't an option. The next logical step is to pick monkey and not be an asshole to it.

Birds make terrible pets, and monkeys are even worse. The latter costs a fortune to feed, is very messy and tempermental, needs lots and lots and lots of attention, and does unpleasant things with pee and poo. Imagine a small, hairy child stuck permanently in the early toddler stage but with enough flexibility, imagination and mobility to do all the things toddlers can't.
