I think the present often seems randomly chaotic but in retrospect I have always been able to recognize what I believe to be definite patterns of synchronicity.

If you can take Ian Fleming's word: once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, three times is enemy action. As for pattern versus chaos, it is a matter of perspective. In physical terms a pattern may seem chaotic if you are busily interacting with it as in a landslide or a migration. Distance in space and time is often necessary to discern a grander design.

As for the original question, there is order in the universe even if it is infused by our own perception. In trying to apprehend the infinite with a finite mind, the incomprehensible should not be confused with chaos.
